The Chicago Marathon Journey
I'm taking on 26.2 miles for Cancer. In October I must have a goal met. I'm trying to improve the
lives of those living with cancer and to help find a cure. I took on this mission a short time ago. My mother passed away from cancer in 2007. My journey started shortly after; "a champion for cancer awareness." A few years later my Godmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I still remember sitting in the store parking lot when her daughter called me to give me the news. It WAS a great day until she RUINED my mood. It helped me to finalize a decision I had been contemplating, cut all my hair off. Today, my Godmother is a SURVIVOR. 11-11-11. I never saw anyone champion so hard before in my life. She's never missed a beat including the birth of my first kid! She shoved the phone in my face right after I came out of delivery. I mean immediately after childbirth, so the same daughter who called me with the painstaking news of her diagnosis could be just as close to me with my post labor pains. After all, we had been through most everything together. She wanted to bring us together for this life changing event as well! That's who she is. Our SURVIVOR!
In 2016 I had a young middle schooler in mind who left here too soon when I decided to run with Team in Training to raise funds for Blood Cancer. She smiled daily and attended my church. She was kind to everyone and was helpful with my kids. I'm nervous about 26 miles but not as nervous as children fighting for their lives or dealing with the side effects of chemo on a daily basis! I've seen the benefits of cancer research and I KNOW SURVIVORS! Do you? This is what raising funds does. It makes patients SURVIVORS!
If you've ever had someone you loved impacted by Cancer please make a donation in their memory. If you know a survivor, donate in their honor. Let's keep celebrating more birthdays! See if your job participates in corporate matches. Will you donate? Help me reach my goal! THIS IS MY WHY!
